As the Philippines tackles one of the world’s highest plastic pollution burdens, Precious Plastic Philippines (PPP) continues to deliver scalable, community-driven solutions. Just months into 2026, the Antipolo-based organization—built on the open-source Precious Plastic framework—has activated key projects, expanded its network, and ramped up the conversion of plastic waste into valuable products like plastic lumber, sheets, and pallets. 2026 is already proving to be a breakout year, with new machine deployments, strategic collaborations, and grassroots empowerment creating jobs, cleaning environments, and strengthening circular economy models.
Bohol’s Newest Precious Plastic Factory Goes Live
One of the standout achievements in early 2026 is the launch of PPP’s newest Precious Plastic factory in Bohol. PPP traveled to Bohol to train the city’s waste workers on upcycling plastic waste using their machines and proven processes. The facility is now fully operational, producing an impressive 250kg of boards per 8-hour shift—equivalent to 250 pieces of 4-foot long 1x2 boards daily.
The operation also manufactures fencing and other building materials locally, reducing reliance on imported wood or cutting trees from protected areas. This project creates sustainable livelihood opportunities for at least 4 people while turning waste into high-value community resources. It stands as a powerful example of decentralized recycling in action.
La Union Project: Shredder Powers Local Recycling at CURMA
A major highlight of early 2026 is the successful installation and activation of a community-model shredder for CURMA in San Fernando, La Union. This deployment equips the team to process plastic waste on-site through segregation and shredding, feeding directly into recycling workflows. It supports decentralized plastic management, prevents ocean-bound waste from rivers and coastal areas, and builds local capacity for sustainable practices in the region. PPP’s updates emphasize this as a ready-to-run setup, encouraging more communities to launch similar initiatives.
This project exemplifies PPP’s community-first approach, turning local waste streams into resources while fostering environmental responsibility in La Union.
Mountain Province Expansions: Three Key Projects Bringing Recycling to the Cordillera
PPP has made significant inroads in Mountain Province in 2026, with full recycling workspaces now operational in three municipalities under the DOST-supported CEST program:
Bontoc and Tadian Factory Lines: Full factory setups, including shredders and extruders, are running in Bontoc and Tadian. These hubs collect and recycle plastic from surrounding barangays, producing durable goods and creating livelihood opportunities in the highlands.
Besao Workspace: In late March/early April 2026, PPP successfully set up a Precious Plastic extrusion and shredding workspace at the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Besao Municipality. The facility collects plastic from nine barangays and operates in cooperation with DOST Mountain Province. It transforms waste into durable plastic planks, boosting eco-innovation in ELCAC communities and providing an environmentally sound solution to plastic pollution.
These Mountain Province projects highlight PPP’s ability to adapt the model to highland communities, combining technology transfer, training, and local ownership for long-term impact.
Scaling Production and Broader Deployments
Beyond these highlights, PPP’s core operations in Antipolo and partner sites continue strong. The team fabricates and deploys improved V5 machines (including the refined 10hp extrusion models), sells complete starter kits with training, and produces plastic lumber and custom pallets that have proven durable in real-world applications. Additional 2026 deployments further extend reach.
Why 2026 Marks a Tipping Point
These early successes build on PPP’s established network of over 20 grassroots workspaces nationwide. Partnerships with LGUs, DOST, UNDP, and international collaborators, plus ongoing machine improvements from the global Precious Plastic community, are accelerating progress. By creating green jobs, diverting waste from landfills and oceans, and supplying sustainable materials, PPP empowers communities while addressing pollution at scale.
Looking ahead, with machines humming in Bohol, La Union, and the three Mountain Province towns (Bontoc, Tadian, and Besao), expanded production lines, and growing demand for recycled products, 2026 positions Precious Plastic Philippines as a national leader in circular solutions. One shredded bottle, one new workspace, and one stronger community at a time, plastic waste is proving truly precious.
